Brenden was a former member of Team Dark Side, but he did not become a member of Team Both Sides. Once Black Cat and Defeated Cat became one, creating Rylie, he decided to kill Rylie in 2024, due to his grudge against Defeated Cat.
He was prepared to do this, as he created a plan to attack and kill Rylie if they ever returned to Earth.
