Written Lore:
Clarence had a rough past, especially with his family.
His mother, Delaney found out that his father, Lawrence worked for Team Dark Side and severely hated her husband for this, so she cheated on him, to spite him.
With rage and resentment towards his mother, Clarence got into a violent altercation with her and killed her as the result.
Clarence hadn't yet known that his father worked for Team Dark Side until the fight with his mom, where she admitted it before her death, causing the huge amount of guilt Clarence gained.
After this, Lawrence held the knowledge of his now late wife's murder as dirt on his son to force him to join Team Dark Side. Because of this, the father and son duo then had an estranged and strained relationship.
Clarence ended up as Black Cat's little minion and errand boy, as Lawrence and Black Cat wanted him to suffer, and because Clarence didn't want to be turned in for murder that the two (Lawrence and Black Cat) covered up, Clarence had to join Team Dark Side and do as he was told.
Once Rylie, and subsequently, Team Both Sides was formed, knowing everything Black Cat had done, Rylie gave Clarence a second chance by allowing him to join Team Both Sides.
Before Rylie left Team Both Sides, they told Zach (the new Team Both Sides leader) Clarence's full story.
Following Rylie's departure from Team Both Sides and Earth, Clarence was promoted by Zach to a Team Both Sides advisor.
Clarence saw his dad one more time, in 2023, when he showed up at his father (Lawrence)'s hideout, telling him off for all the bad he did, and left. Unaware of the fact that Clarence knew his location and would have the guts and nerve to come do this, Lawrence had a heart attack and died, alone. This gave Clarence closure for a lot of his pain, so he could move forward and be a better man, and a good friend, in the future.
